Patriots’ Mac Jones explains ‘throw the f—ing ball’ sideline rant: ‘Just emotion coming out’

The past few weeks have been a roller-coaster ride for the Patriots. They went from scoring three points on offense in a win over the Jets, to one of the best games of quarterback Mac Jones’ career in a Thanksgiving loss to the Vikings, to struggling again in a 24-10 loss to the Bills on “Thursday Night Football.”

Jones was 22 for 36 for 195 yards and a touchdown, but by the end of the game, he appeared to be fed up with the way the game was being called.

Patriots fans were in agreement. The team was booed frequently as the offense’s woes continued.

After the game, the Amazon “Thursday Night Football” crew showed Jones on the sideline appearing to yell, “Throw the f—ing ball. F—ing [unintelligible] game sucks.”

Jones said after the game he was saying the “quick” passing game was bad and he wanted the offense to be more vertical.

“The coaches have a really good plan for what they think is going to work for that week,” Jones added to reporters after the game, per Alex Barth of Boston radio station WBZ. “For this game, it was the quick game, get the ball outside, make them tackle.”

That game plan didn’t bear much fruit.

There was much consternation prior to the season about who would be calling plays for the Patriots, and Jones’ quote seemed to be directed at senior adviser Matt Patricia. The Patriots’ offense has sputtered for long periods this season, and frustration seemed to bubble over.
