With Will Zalatoris withdrawing from the FedEx Cup playoffs due to a back injury, the field vying for the massive purse and the rights to be called “Best on the Tour” slips from 30 to 29. Even with Zalatoris’ absence, there are plenty of stars set to compete in East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
For Thursday’s first round, defending FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay playing alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in the pairing of pairings. Cantlay became the first golfer to defend a FedEx Cup tournament after winning the BMW Championship on Aug. 21.
Also of intrigue is Open Championship winner Cameron Smith pairing off with Rory McIlroy (1:45 p.m. ET tee time).
