Pixel Fold Leaks and Rumors: What We Expect From Google’s Folding Phone

With Samsung’s successful launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, and the recently announced Honor Magic Vs, it’s clear that foldable phones are here to stay. We’ve long suspected Google has been working on a folding phone of its own—the aptly named Pixel Fold—though leaks have been surprisingly sparse. Google’s vice-like grip on the phone is starting to loosen, however, as prominent leakers have begun to spot alleged renders of the device. With that in mind, here’s what we’ve heard about the Pixel Fold so far.

The Pixel Fold Has a Huge Screen

Noted leaker Steve H. McFly(Opens in a new window) (@OnLeaks on Twitter) and How to I Solve(Opens in a new window) posted renders and 360-degree video showing off the alleged Pixel Fold in all of its giant glory. The first significant leak came from Front Page Tech(Opens in a new window), and the new leak appears to match what we saw then, thus adding some credence to their accuracy.

According to these sources, the phone features a folding interior screen that leakers claim is 7.69 inches (that’s a bit larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 7.6-inch display). The outer screen is reportedly 5.79 inches and features a hole punch selfie camera up top. It’s a bit smaller than the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s external display, which is 6.2 inches.

The Pixel Fold Is Thin (For a Foldable)

The leak says the phone will measure 6.25 by 5.5 by 0.22 inches (HWD) when opened. With the camera bump, the thickness of the open phone is 0.33 inches. That means we can assume the phone is about 0.44 inches thick when closed (or 0.55 inches at the camera bump). That’s shockingly thin for a folding phone, and could be a selling point for anyone turned off by the depth of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 (0.62 inches).

The Pixel Fold Comes in Two Colors

According to the leak from Steve H. McFly and How to I Solve, the Pixel Fold will come in two colors—black and silver. Of course, Google will likely pick its own branded colorways, but if the leaks are to be believed, the Fold will be a variant of these basic shades. While not the most exciting color options, it’ll surely be the phone’s design and capabilities that interest potential buyers more than the colors.

The Pixel Fold Has Three Cameras

According to the leaked images, the Pixel Fold will have a camera bar that looks a lot like the one on the Pixel 7 family of devices (again, this information comes from Steve H. McFly). Tucked within that camera bar looks to be three cameras. Unfortunately, the specs for said cameras haven’t leaked yet, so all we can do is guess that they’ll be near the same quality as the Pixel 7.

The Pixel Fold Isn’t Cheap

The first batch of leaks suggest the Google Pixel Fold will cost $1,799, the same price as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Some believe Google may source the folding panel itself from Samsung, so this pricing doesn’t seem too unreasonable. Such a high cost, however, doesn’t quite mesh with the affordability of the rest of the Pixel series.

When Is the Pixel Fold Coming Out?

While these leaks come from reputable sources, we can’t know whether any of this information is accurate until Google announces the phone. But where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire, so we’re pretty confident that the Pixel Fold is coming. We’re just not sure when. But we’ll be reporting on the leaks and rumors as they come out, so make sure to check back for more details.
