A Fairfield resident late Monday night, fearing an intruder was trying to break into his home, fired a gun, striking the person, a reportedly drunken friend, once, a spokeswoman for the Fairfield Police Department said.
Confirming a report on social media, Jennifer Brantley, the department spokeswoman, said dispatchers received a call regarding a shooting that occurred at a Fairfield residence, but, in an email to The Reporter Tuesday afternoon, she did not know the address.
In the email, Brantley added that responding officers spoke to the homeowner, who, though not identified, said that he “heard someone kicking at the side door of his house” around 11 p.m.
Believing it to be an intruder, the homeowner fired a gun, striking the person once.
“Unfortunately, it was not an intruder but the homeowner’s friend who was under the influence of alcohol,” Brantley wrote in the email.
The man was immediately taken to a local hospital. His condition was unknown, and she provided no additional details.
