A Massachusetts woman accused of slamming into her ex-boyfriend with her car and then stabbing him said she attacked her former partner because he had cheated on her, according to police.
Lashonda Warner, 27, has been charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car and knife), and leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury.
Boston Police responded to a call for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Manchester Street in Mattapan on Dec. 23 at about 9:30 p.m.
They found a 28-year-old man bleeding from a stab wound to his abdomen. A witness told police that a silver Honda Accord made a three-point turn in the street, struck two vehicles and then hit the victim. Police followed a trail of blood and found a pink folding knife, covered in blood, on the street.
Medical responders transported the victim to Boston Medical Center where he remained in the ICU as of Tuesday.
Police sent out a description of the vehicle and soon after, State Police pulled over a vehicle matching the description on Interstate 93 north near exit 15B. Troopers saw blood on the front grille.
The driver, Warner, later admitted to police that she had struck and stabbed the victim because he had told her that he was being unfaithful.
“The actions people take when they receive unwelcome news can make a bad situation much worse for everyone involved, as is the case here,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said. “This woman’s actions have had a dramatic impact on her life and the victim’s.”
Warner is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. The Dorchester judge also ordered Warner to stay away and have no contact with the victim.
Warner will return to court on March 24 for a pre-trial hearing.
