Pregnant woman gobsmacked as mother-in-law steals her dinner as she wanted ‘seconds’

A mum-to-be was left feeling annoyed after discovering that her mother-in-law had eaten her dinner without asking permission first as she wanted to have ‘seconds’

It’s no secret that when you’re expecting, it’s important you maintain the right diet, getting all the sustenance your baby needs, as you’re eating for two. So it comes as no surprise that one woman was left feeling pretty annoyed when she was left without any food to eat, after cooking for her family.

The anonymous woman took to Reddit to ask if she was in the right to feel this way, after her husband’s mother stole her plate of food, ate some of it and then took the rest home as leftovers – leaving her without any dinner for herself.

The mum-to-be explained in her post that she’d made Swedish meatballs in gravy with mashed potato, broccoli and freshly baked bread.

She dished up generous amounts of food for her husband, kids and mother-in-law and also made up a plate or herself.

But before she tucked in to the meal, she nipped outside to grab some clothes in off the washing line, not thinking anything of it.

When she returned inside, her dinner was gone, as her mother-in-law wanted seconds.

The mum wrote: “I served up generous portions for everyone way more than I thought they could eat but when I got back from the line my dinner was gone. I asked if anyone knew what had happened to the food on the bench and mother-in-law pipes up and says she wanted some more.

“She’s piled her bowl FULL of meatballs. Way more than she would ever eat. I’m stunned. I figure oh well. I’ll just grab some fast food a bit later or something because maybe she was super hungry. My bad for not cooking enough.

“But once she’s eaten what she wants, she asks for a container so she can take her extra portion home for dinner the next night. I’m pretty annoyed at this point and mention that it was meant to be my dinner for that night, not her takeaway meal for the next night. She says ‘oh well you can eat it then’ and I reply with ‘no thank you’ and hand her a container. (I didn’t want to eat her leftovers.)

“She leaves and my husband puts the kids to bed. When he comes back in he asks what’s wrong and I tell him that I’m hungry. I cooked the meal and didn’t get to eat any of it and I’m p***ed off about it. He agrees mother-in-law was way out of line and messages her that her actions were greedy and selfish. She owes me an apology.”

The post continues to explain that the mother-in-law replied branding her daughter-in-law an “a**hole” and saying she should have cooked more food in anticipation that she might want to take some home.

“She offered me what she didn’t eat and I didn’t want it. It’s not her fault and that I owe HER an apology for my attitude and snarky comment. She’s also posting on social media about what happened and people are saying that I’m an a**hole.. and a rude hostess,” they explain.

“I should also add I’m currently pregnant and I feel like I can be quite unreasonable at times due to hormones.”

More than 2,600 people responded to the post, sharing their thoughts on the incident.

One person said: “You know she did this on purpose, right? She wanted to start this fight with you. She took all of the food before you had eaten any, and then demanded to take leftovers. She’s f***ing with you. Don’t ever cook for her again.”

Another wrote: “Who takes a pregnant person’s food then tries to gaslight them about it? That woman wouldn’t be welcome in my house again.”

A third replied: “If someone did this to me, they would be permanently banned from my home and would never see my children again. You don’t mess with a pregnant woman’s food. If she did this by mistake, she would have apologised, offered to make or go get something for you, and wouldn’t have launched an attack on social media.”
