If you’re going to buy Nvidia’s RTX 4080 graphics card, prepare to see at least a few models that can reach around $1,500 — or $300 more than the actual starting price.
The electronics retailer Micro Center has published(Opens in a new window) upcoming prices for 13 different models of the RTX 4080, which releases next week on Nov. 16th.
VideoCardz spotted(Opens in a new window) the product listings and noticed they can range up to $1,549 price, which happens to be only $50 cheaper than the starting cost for a more powerful RTX 4090 graphics card.

The good news is that only one model on Micro Center reaches the $1,549 price: Asus’s GeForce RTX 4080 ROG Strix Overclocked. Why it costs so much isn’t entirely clear. But it features a higher boost speed at 2.65GHz over the standard 2.51GHz while including some RGB lighting.
The upcoming Asus GeForce RTX 4080 TUF Overclocked will also pricey at $1,499. In addition, MSI and Gigabyte plan on selling two separate models for $1,399.
Meanwhile, only four of the models listed on Micro Center will be priced at $1,199. On launch day, Nvidia is also expected to sell a Founders Edition RTX 4080 on Best Buy that’ll retail for $1,199.
The wide price ranges are hardly a surprise for long-time GPU watchers though. During last month’s launch for the more expensive RTX 4090, pricing ranged from $1,599 up to $1,999.

For users looking for a more affordable RTX 4000 card, you’ll have to wait. Nvidia was originally going to release the less powerful RTX 4080 12GB model for $899 on Nov. 16th, alongside the higher-priced version. But the company decided to scrap the product’s launch over worries giving two distinctly different GPUs the same name would confuse consumers. Rumors(Opens in a new window) suggest Nvidia is renaming the RTX 4080 12GB model to the RTX 4070 Ti, which is expected to launch in early January.
In the meantime, stay tuned for our review of the RTX 4080, where we’ll examine whether the graphics card is worth a buy.
