Psychologist’s 47 relationship rules labelled ‘toxic’ by outraged women

One tip of Madeline’s caused outrage while others have women hailing her for ‘curing them’

Some of Madeline’s rules need to be taken with a pinch of salt

A woman claiming to be a psychologist has shared her 47 dating and relationship rules on TikTok – that some women have hailed as ‘curing them’. While many of them are satirical and should be taken with a pinch of salt, one of her ‘rules’ in particular has sparked anger on the social platform among single mums, and some others have been labelled as ‘toxic’.

For the past few weeks, Madeline – who describes her account @Madellinnee as ‘your daily psychologist’ – has posted a new clip each day of her out and about, usually enjoying herself at restaurants. With every video comes a written rule advising women on how to be around men – from the early stages of texting to being in longer-term relationships.

Her statements can be useful in reminding women about their self-worth – such as rule 21, where Madeline writes: “Remember ladies, don’t show a man you’ll stay with him through everything because he’ll keep putting you through everything.” While she can give brutal reminders such as rule 10 where she states: “There is no such thing as mixed signals, it just means that he never wanted you… do better”.

Many of them initiate women to play games to get the attention of men and some are downright disturbing. Take Madeline’s rule 26 – “Give them trauma so they’ll never forget about you” – to which one user responded: “how to be toxic asf 101”.

But it was rule 31 that didn’t go down well with single mums – which Madeline has since apologised for.

She shared: “It’s okay to get your heartbroken… some girls are left with children.”

TikTok user637033969997 responded: “Me sitting here next to my toddler [stunned face]” while user Paige wrote: “Right?? Like [stunned face].”

After a number of followers backed Madeline up, saying the humorous content creator didn’t mean to cause any offence, Madeline responded: “Girls, I don’t mean to hurt anyone, just wanted to increase awareness for the younger girls to take maximum care with boys.”

On the other hand, a lot of the clips have been celebrated by women on the platform, with comments shared about how her words of wisdom have been the motivation they needed to get out of draining and unhealthy relationships.

User bendwithbry replied to one video: “You motivate me” while another woman said: “Omg. U just cured me crying for the last 16 hours. Thank you for your service.”

Kraze0utlawqueen wrote: “Going through a break up your video are the best love this advice!”

Other women have admitted they have been following Madeline’s advice, with positive outcomes. TikTok user hincalahiri wrote: “That’s what i did guys- it worked.”
