Choco Mucho extended its winning streak in the PVL All-Filipino Conference to five after surviving an unlikely challenger in Nxled, 25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10 on Thursday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Sisi Rondina injected 23 points, 21 from attacks, highlighted by 19 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions as Isa Molde contributed 12 attack points to help the Flying Titans to soar to a 7-3 record. They still haven’t lost a game this year.

SCHEDULE: PVL All-Filipino Conference 2024-2025

Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Maika Ortiz pitched in nine points each while Royse Tubino and Cherry Nunag added seven points apiece. Deanna Wong activated her spikers with 12 excellent sets as Thang Ponce took care of the defense with 15 excellent digs and 19 excellent receptions.

“A win is a win, but Nxled played with so much confidence against us,” said coach Dante Alinsunurin. “They played really well—no matter what adjustments we made, they kept pushing. They had a great game, and so did we. We had some lapses, but that’s part of the game. Luckily, we were able to adjust in the end.”

Coming off a breakthrough win in their last game at the expense of Galeries Tower that snapped a 15-game skid, the Chameleons looked different on the court and threatened to deal Choco Mucho some damage after getting a 2-1 set advantage.

Nxled could’ve gotten a second straight win in the tight fourth set before Tubino came up with clutch back-to-back hits, 22-20, as the Titans refused to give up the crucial frame.

Choco Mucho kept the momentum and in the deciding set manufactured a 4-0 opening run. A quick attack by Ortiz gave the Titans a 12-6 lead before Rondina scored off a combination attack for the match point.

Molde committed a net error but immediately recovered with a powerful down the line hit to end the two-hour and 37 minute affair.

Nxled’s improved form was evident in the numbers provided by EJ Laure, May Luna-Lumahan and Lucille Almonte.

Laure finished with 20 points and 21 excellent digs, Lumahan 17 points and Almonte 11 points as well as 14 excellent digs thanks to Jaja Maraguinot’s 16 excellent sets. But with 35 errors hounding the Chameleons, Nxled dropped to a 1-9 standing.

Choco Mucho will wrap up the preliminary round against Chery Tiggo on Feb. 22 in Iloilo for a chance to head into the knockout round riding a six-game win run.

Nxled, meanwhile, looks to continue improving as it battles Petro Gazz next on Feb. 20 in the same Pasig City venue.
