MANILA, Philippines–Creamline made it seven straight wins but not after surviving Cignal, 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9 in the PVL All-Filipino Conference Saturday night at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Bernadeth Pons unleashed 27 points from 24 attacks, two aces and a block while Tots Carlos contributed 15 points off the bench for the Cool Smashers.

“Masaya kasi naka-recover kami [from the] third and fourth sets. Syempre ‘yung winning [mentality] ng Cignal talagang nandoon eh. Mahirap din talaga silang kalaban, since dati pa naman,” Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses said.

“Si coach Shaq (delos Santos) talagang ‘di basta basta magpapatalo kahit sinong player niya so talagang nagsipag sila. Siguro ‘yung break napunta sa amin, siguro nakatulong din na sanay na ‘yung Creamline sa mga ganung laban, so malaking advantage sa amin. Happy ako na nakuha namin ‘yung panalo,” Meneses added.

Pons’ performance also featured 14 excellent digs, Jema Galanza, who pitched in nine points, was also present on the defense end with 12 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions. Kyla Atienza also had 17 excellent receptions.
Kyle Negrito made it happen for the Cool Smashers with 21 excellent sets while Bea de Leon chipped in 12 points.
Cignal showed what it’s made of by forcing Creamline to dig deep after leveling the match to two sets apiece. But the Cool Smashers’ composure and experience showed when it mattered most.

After being dragged to a deciding set, Creamline regrouped and raced to an 11-5 advantage in the final frame.
Gandler’s 21 points and 12 excellent receptions were not enough to stop the HD Spikers from absorbing a third loss in eight games. The defeat also spoiled a career night from Ishie Lalongisip, who shone with 19 points.
Dawn Macandili-Catindig and Gel Cayuna also provided big numbers with 25 excellent digs and 25 excellent sets, respectively in a losing cause.
Creamline looks to continue its perfect run against Chery Tiggo on Thursday before Cignal goes for a bounce-back performance against Capital1.
