MANILA, Philippines — From one MVP to another, Brooke Van Sickle credited Petro Gazz’s hot start in the PVL All-Filipino Conference to Myla Pablo’s resurgence.

Van Sickle unleashed six blocks to finish with a game-high 19 points, while Pablo sustained her fine form with 15 points as Petro Gazz earned its fourth straight win, sweeping erstwhile unbeaten Cignal, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18, on Saturday at Philsports Arena.

“I’m just proud of the team. Everyone did a fantastic job. Super aggressive. I thought Myla did fantastic. I think every ball she touched was a kill,” said Van Sickle, who also had seven digs.

“It’s good to win against Cignal. They’re a very, very good team. They’re very scrappy and they know how to win. I’m very proud leaving on a high note before Christmas.”

In all of Petro Gazz’s four straight wins, Pablo averaged 15 points to keep the Angels among the top teams before the long holiday.

The reigning PVL MVP praised the 31-year-old spikers’ composure and leadership.

“Myla’s a fantastic player. They don’t call her ‘Typhoon Pablo’ for nothing. She has all the shots, wicked line hits for sure. She’s just confident. When I see her on the court and something doesn’t happen, she’s like ‘okay, next one, I got it,’” said Van Sickle of the former PVL MVP.

“It’s really refreshing to be next to her and have someone who’s calm, collected, and just fiery. I’m very happy to have her as a teammate.”

Van Sickle is just grateful to be part of Petro Gazz as playing in the PVL was the biggest highlight of her year. 

“I’ve been here for almost a year now. This is the best time I’m ever having. This is where I want to be. This is where I dream to play and I’m having a blast. I’m just super grateful to be able to be on this team with these girls. Everyone’s just so sweet, accepting and nice. I love my team. Very, very grateful to have this opportunity,” Van Sickle said.

Van Sickle and the Angels return to action on January 21 against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers at the same venue in Pasig City.
