Lions CB Saivion Smith appeared to suffer a severe neck injury during Sunday’s game against the Patriots. Smith, 24, went down after colliding with New England TE Hunter Henry early in the first quarter.

He laid motionless for several minutes before Detroit’s medical staff placed him on a back board. An ambulance was brought on the field to transport Smith to a local hospital.
Smith’s Lions teammates gathered around him as he was carried into the ambulance. According to Fox’s broadcast, one of Smith’s relatives was allowed to leave the stands and enter the ambulance with Smith.

Detroit announced that Smith was transported to a local hospital to undergo testing for a neck injury.
This is Smith’s first season with the Lions. He previously featured on Dallas, Denver and San Francisco’s practice squads.
