What would you do with a spare Sony X77L 4K TV? The possibilities are endless. Turn it into a dedicated gaming screen, or set it up in the bedroom so you’re not hunched over watching Netflix on your phone? Put it in the garage so you can watch YouTube videos for reference while you work on your car? It’s a free TV; no matter what you do with it, you’re winning.
Of course, nothing in this world comes without strings, but Sony’s current TV offer is pretty simple. Here’s how it works: you pick up a 65-inch Bravia 8 from Sony’s online store, and they’ll bundle in the X77L for free. This is a $600 value, but it won’t last long. The Bravia 8 is a solid set that we reviewed, noting that it has incredible black quality and contrast thanks to its OLED panel design, along with the sleek styling we expect from Sony.
Here’s more info on each TV, so you can shop with confidence.
The TV You Need To Buy First
The 65″ Bravia 8 is a 4K set that uses the Google TV smart platform for easy connection to all the major streaming services, as well as the ability to stream media from Android and iOS devices and Chrome tabs. It also includes Google Assistant voice control through the Bravia’s far-field microphones. The cutting-edge quantum dot OLED panel can output billions of accurate real-world colors with no light bloom, making it great for gaming, sports and movies. An input lag of 4.6 milliseconds in the TV’s dedicated Game mode is speedy enough for twitch reflexes, and the panel refreshes at 120Hz and supports variable refresh rates. The TV You’ll Get For Free
The 55″ Sony X77L is an entry-level TV with decent performance. Powered by the excellent 4k Processor X1, it delivers clear, reliable UHD imagery with realistic upscaling from HD and SD signals as well. We don’t have a full review of this model, but from the specs it’s a reliable performer with some nice features, including speedy refresh rates for gaming and a wide viewing angle. Contrast is a bit lower on this model, so it’s not as potent in a dark room as the Bravia 8. Reflection handling and peak brightness are good in more moderately-lit environments. And it’s free! Don’t forget that it’s free.
