Sevilla vs. Manchester City live score, updates, highlights & lineups from UEFA Champions League Group G clash

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will begin their latest bid for elusive UEFA Champions League glory when they face Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Group G on Tuesday.

City were beaten in the 2021 final by Chelsea and suffered a dramatic late collapse against Real Madrid in last season’s semifinals, while Guardiola has to go back to 2011 for his previous triumph in Europe’s top competition when he led Barcelona to a second success in three years.

The Premier League champions were held to a lacklustre 1-1 draw by Aston Villa at the weekend but such form concerns are dwarfed by Sevilla’s current plight.

Julen Lopetegui’s men were beaten 3-0 by Barcelona on Sunday and have taken a solitary point from their opening four games in LaLiga.

Sevilla vs. Man City live updates, highlights from the Champions League

1 hr 45 mins from kickoff: So then, is this finally going to be the year for City? “F***, I don’t know,” was Pep Guardiola when asked whether Champions League glory was on the cards after the heartbreak of the past two seasons for the Premier League winners. Erling Haaland certainly has the capacity to be the difference maker, even if Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Aston Villa showed a few teething problems remain with this new iteration. That’s nothing compared to Sevilla’s start to the LaLiga season, which has been rank. One point from four games means they’ll be leaning heavily on the club’s well-established European pedigree to help spark a magical night at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

2 hours from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of the Champions League Group G opener between Sevilla and Manchester City at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla vs. Man City lineups

City fans will find a few familiar faces in the Sevilla line-up. Veteran winger Jesus Navas, a fullback these days, is set to start in a back four alongside their former youth defender Karim Rekik, while Fernando is the club captain and likely to anchor the midfield alongside Thomas Delaney.

Sevilla projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Bono (GK) — Navas, Nianzou, Rekik, Telles — Fernando, Delaney — Suso, Gomez, Lamela — Mir

Guardiola has a couple of defensive concerns, with Kyle Walker and John Stones not fit enough to make the trip to Spain. That could mean a debut for new signing Manuel Akanji, while the City boss could also be minded to give Jack Grealish a start after his return from injury.

Manchester City projected starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Ederson — Cancelo, Akanji, Dias, Ake — De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva — Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish
