Social media mocks Miami’s 14-12 win over Virginia that had 4 OTs and no TDs

Miami earned a 14-12 road victory against Virginia on Saturday, but don’t be fooled: The Hurricanes’ final score wasn’t a result of two touchdowns.

Instead, Miami’s victory was by way of a 6-6 tie at the end of regulation, followed by two field goals in two overtime periods, a scoreless third overtime and, finally, a successful 2-point conversion in the fourth overtime period.

Miami’s Andres Borregales was 4 of 4 on the day, including a long of 42 yards. He was responsible for all but two of the Hurricanes’ points, which came by way of a Jake Garcia scramble. With that score, Miami beat the Cavaliers, who had already failed their 2-point conversion attempt.

Miami and Virginia started the game with 10 combined punts before the Hurricanes finally got on the board with a 38-yard field goal to end the half. Virginia responded in kind out of halftime with a Will Bettridge 27-yard field goal. (He also went 4 for 4 on the day).

Following that was a Miami punt; Virginia turnover on downs at the Miami 1-yard line (after having first-and-goal at the 1); Miami punt; Virginia 24-yard field goal; Miami punt; Virginia punt; and Miami 20-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.

The teams combined to go 10 for 33 on third down (and 0 for 1 on fourth down) and 14 punts. They also had five penalties each for a combined 67 yards. Curiously, neither team committed a turnover besides the failed fourth-down attempt by Virginia.

Naturally, the outcome of the game and the generally poor play by both teams led to derision on mockery on social media. Here are some of the more notable examples:
