Sony Says Buying a PS5 Should Be Much Easier Now

According to Sony, the days of retailers having no PS5 stock are well and truly over.

Since launch day back in November 2020, the PS5 console has been in short supply and any stock that was available quickly got snapped up by scalpers. The combination of very high demand, supply chain problems, and scalpers, meant Sony struggled to produce enough hardware and get it to retailers. But that’s no longer the case.

In a blog post(Opens in a new window) today, Sony said supply problems are a thing of the past. Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President, Brand, Hardware and Peripherals at SIE said, “thank you for your patience as we navigated unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amid global challenges. If you’re looking to purchase a PS5 console, you should now have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally.”

If you live in the US, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, or Luxembourg, the console should be readily available from PlayStation Direct(Opens in a new window) as well as local retailers. It’s also likely you’ll be purchasing the most recent model refresh, which uses a new internal design that’s both lighter and consumes less power (and uses the updated 6nm Oberon Plus chip).
