Spending Too Much on Streaming? How to Cancel Paramount+

Formerly known as CBS All Access, Paramount+ launched in 2021 to bring together the ViacomCBS brands (now known as Paramount Global). That means CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Smithsonian Channel, VH1, and now Showtime are all in one place.

In a world of ever-increasing streaming video services, it’s hard to go wrong when you can watch Avatar: The Last Airbender, Daria, Dexter, Halo, Homeland, Nathan For You, NCIS, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Star Trek: Discovery, Paramount’s catalogue of new and classic films, and live NFL, soccer, golf, college basketball, and college football coverage all on the same platform.

But if you’re left unsatisfied, or simply don’t have the time to take full advantage when you’re already paying for Netflix and HBO Max, it may be time to cut ties with Paramount+. Here’s how to cancel or at least downgrade your account.

Cancel Paramount+

You must visit the Paramount+ website(Opens in a new window) to make changes to your account. If you plan to cancel, head to the site and choose your profile. Hover over your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Account. Select the Cancel Subscription link under the Subscription & Billing section.

In a bid to keep your business, Paramount may throw a special discount your way. I received 50% off my plan for two months when I tried to cancel the service. If you’re determined to continue, you can reject this offer. Check the box and then click Yes, Cancel to make it official.

Change Plans

Now, if you want to keep Paramount+ but wish to save some extra money, you can adjust your plan accordingly. From the Account page on the web, click the Edit Plan link next to your active plan. You can then select a new plan and click Switch Plan to confirm.

If you subscribe to the $9.99 Premium plan, you can save some money by dropping to the ad-supported $4.99 Essential plan. If the $12.99 Premium with Showtime is too much, you can make it $7.99 with ads or drop the bundle altogether.

For additional savings, you may also want to switch to an annual plan, which will be about 16% cheaper than your current plan. Click the link at the bottom of this page to see yearly rates for these plans. Paying $99.99 for a full year of Premium will cost closer to $8.30 a month. At $49.99 a year for the Essential plan, you would pay just over $4 a month.

T-Mobile customers and Walmart+ subscribers can also get the Paramount+ Essential plan for free, so check out those deals if you can.
