Plus, starting Jan. 1, Spotify will launch even more content designed to help set 2023 resolutions. No further details were revealed, though you can expect things like workout, meditation, and better-sleep playlists.
“There’s always some level of anticipation around the new year and that shows in the playlists fans put together,” the company says(Opens in a new window).
Last year, 82,000 New Year’s Eve setlists were created between Dec. 25 and Jan. 31—nearly half of which were crafted on the actual night. Unsurprisingly, listeners worldwide opted for uplifting pop (of the general, Korean, and indie varieties), hip-hop, and trap tunes.
Distinct forms like cumbia (folk rhythms from Latin America), discofox (to accompany a disco-foxtrot mashup dance), volksmusik (traditional German folk songs), schlager (Europop), and partyschlager (“for those who think regular schlager isn’t festive enough,” Spotify notes) also saw an uptick in interest.

NYE 2021 was all about “the tracks you could sing and dance along to,” Spotify says. That includes “Hey Ya!” by Outkast, Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk,” and “Mr. Brightside” from The Killers. New Year-specific tracks like Mariah Carey’s rendition of “Auld Lang Syne—The New Year’s Anthem” and ABBA’s “Happy New Year,” meanwhile, captured 2,000% more interest than any other time.
“Whatever your plans are for ringing in the new year, we hope that 2023 is just as fantastic for listening as this one was.”
