Sunny Edwards returns to the fray to defend his IBF flyweight championship against Felix Alvarado at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, England on November 11.
Edwards (18-0, 4 KOs) wrenched the title from long-reigning champ Moruti Mthalane (UD 12) in April 2021. It was a career-best performance, and the talented Englishman followed up with a pair of dominant unanimous decision wins over Jayson Mama and Muhammad Waseem.
Many expect Nicaraguan destroyer Felix Alvarado, 33, to provide the slippery Edwards with the most difficult test of his career to date. A former IBF junior-flyweight champion, Alvarado has an eye-popping record of 38-2 (33 KOs) and he is unbeaten over the last eight years.
The 26-year-old Edwards has long pursued a clash against WBC counterpart Julio Cesar Martinez. Should he prevail against Alvarado, a unification matchup against the Mexican brawler may finally come to fruition.

“I have become one of the most avoided fighters in world boxing, but Felix Alvarado has the courage to face me on November 11, and that makes him an extremely dangerous opponent,” Edwards stated before the fight. “I have grand plans to become the undisputed flyweight world champion, and then move through the weights, and I am totally confident that will happen – but there is no room for error against a fighter of Alvarado’s calibre, that’s for sure.”
