A teacher has divided opinion by claiming kids should not be able to give out party invites while in class and says it can be devastating for some kids. The educator’s clip was in response to a parent in the US who went viral herself after claiming her kid’s teacher wanted her to invite everyone in the class, not just a select few.

This caught the attention of a fellow educator called Sydney who posts under the name @sydneyyythekydneyyy who explained that the kids that are left out can often feel embarrassed and upset about being left out when the invites are handed out during school time. In her comment she said: “I’m a teacher and I’ve watched kids be devastated they were left out. Just don’t pass them out in class??? Simple.”

This parent was not happy that her kid’s teacher had told her to invite everyone to the party.

After receiving a huge backlash on her comment she decided to make a video to explain her point of view.

In the clip she said: “My point is that you don’t have to invite everyone, but then just don’t pass out the invitations in class.

“The comments I got were so privileged and so vile.”

She went on to explain that it is important for kids to know that life is not fair sometimes and she has had many students less fortunate than her family.

“Newsflash: My kids know life isn’t fair. You know how I know that? I have students who live in cars. I have students who have dead parents. I have students who don’t know where their next meal is coming from,” she said.

“A lot of times, it’s the students with the hard home lives who have trouble socializing and making friends that aren’t invited to the birthday.

“I’m not going to let you be the reminder that they didn’t win the popularity contest this year. Do that…on your own time and leave it out of the classroom.”
