Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa results: ‘Takeover 2.0’ begins with Lopez stopping Ciampa in seven

LAS VEGAS — “The Takeover 2.0” is officially underway.

Teofimo Lopez made his debut at 140 pounds a successful one by dominating and stopping Pedro Campa in the seventh round in front of 3,553 fans at Resorts World on Saturday night.

Lopez returned to action for the first time since November 2021 when he dropped the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring titles to George Kambosos Jr. The loss didn’t come without controversy as Lopez dealt with health issues due to a battle with COVID and promised to come back stronger upon his return.

“I was at 135 pounds for nine years,” Lopez said of his 140-pound debut. “It was killing my body, since I was a teenage kid, man.”

He did just that against Campa and announced that he’ll be back in action on December 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) allowed Campa to be the aggressor throughout and repeatedly rammed power shots into the face and body of his opponent. Campa refused to back down and press forward but found himself on the wrong end of the 25-year-old’s power.

Lopez continued to land flush as Campa tried to find an opening. But Lopez was too sharp, too strong and his timing was pristine.

In the seventh round, Campa walked into a counter right hand that was followed by a left that put him down on the canvas. Lopez sensed that the end was near and began to dance. But it was with purpose as he used the move to lunge in with a left hook that rocked Campa. Lopez pounced on his wounded opponent and finished the job as referee Tony Weeks stopped the fight at the 2:14 mark.

Lopez said afterward that he’s targeting a fight with unified titleholder Josh Taylor but is open to a fight with Ryan Garcia and any of the other young fighters who have called him out.

“We want Josh Taylor,” Lopez said. “We want these guys. We want Prograis. We want Zepeda. We want all the belts. We want to become two-time undisputed champion.”

Here’s how it all went down in Las Vegas.
