Tesla Is Raising the Price of Full Self-Driving to $15,000

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that Full Self-Driving (FSD) will soon cost $15,000.

The company originally charged $5,000 for access to the FSD beta; it raised the price to $10,000 in October 2020 and then to $12,000 in January. Now it’s planning to increase the cost of the add-on by another $3,000 after the FSD 10.69.2 beta is made widely available, Musk says.

Musk’s announcement follows criticism from the National Transportation Safety Board, California Department of Motor Vehicles, and others regarding the way Tesla presents FSD’s capabilities. Despite the name, the feature offers assistive driving tools, not truly autonomous driving.

That criticism hasn’t stopped Tesla from making the FSD beta available to more drivers, however, or from raising the price of the add-on before it sees an official release. Musk also seems to be pushing(Opens in a new window) Tesla owners to enroll in the FSD beta ahead of the price bump.

The new $15,000 price for FSD only appears to apply to North America. Musk hasn’t announced a price increase for the FSD monthly subscription introduced in July 2021, which offers access to the add-on for $99 or $199 per month, depending on the vehicle’s Autopilot configuration.
