The Best National Celebration Days Left in August

  • Have you celebrated any of the National August days?

Between National Secondhand Wardrobe Day and National Eat Outside Day, what more could you want in a national celebration day? Here are all the other amazing ways to celebrate the rest of this month, and the summer.

National Lemon Meringue Pie Day

If you love this pie, then yesterday was the day! Lemon flavor is perfect in the summer and this pie is light yet deliciously rich all at the same time. It’s easy enough to make one large pie to share but also fun and individualized a bit if you bake individual servings with different fruit fillings. Not only that but you can also make meringue cookies and add things like coffee or chocolate, or really anything you like!

National Relaxation Day

If there’s a better ending to a slice of lemon meringue pie than a side of relaxation, I don’t know what it is. And yesterday, August 15th, is also national relaxation day. On this day, we’re reminded to slow down and unwind. It’s a day for taking care of ourselves and taking a moment to relax. (National celebration day for  relaxation is Wednesday in the sun for me, working today.) Will you be celebrating by prioritizing rest?

National Roller Coaster Day

How fun are roller coasters in the summer sun? Especially now that the weather is starting to cool a little, leading to a warm summer sun and a crisp, cool breeze. The perfect weather for a trip to the amusement park. August 16th is national roller coaster day commemorating Edwin Prescott, the man who patented the first vertical loop roller coaster on this day in 1898. Wow, roller coasters for over 100 years, how cool.

National Rum Day

August 16th is also national rum day, though it’s probably best not to mix rum day and rollercoaster day. Rum is the third most popular liquor in the United States, preceded by vodka and whiskey. There are other rum holidays like National Pina Colada Day and National Daquiri Day, though both are celebrated in July. Rum is enjoyed both hot and cold. If the weather is a bit chilly where you are today, hot buttered rum, a hot toddy, or even a rum-spiked apple cider would warm you up. However, it could be 90 degrees and hot, in which case a rum punch or a rum and soda could be a lot more refreshing and enjoyable.

National Joke Day

The great finisher to August 16th? It’s national celebration of telling a joke day. This could be especially fun if combined with national rum day. There are knock-knock jokes, bad (read: funny) dad jokes, and so many others leading to hours of fun and laughter. Some jokes even involve props or stunts and most end with (drumroll please…) a punchline.

Black Cat Appreciation Day

Are you a cat lover? What about a black cat lover? On August 17th, it’s black cat appreciation day so it’s the perfect day to celebrate the black cats that you love. Did you know that black cats are less likely to be adopted? They get shunned a little at shelters, perhaps because of the stories that involve black cats and the superstitions surrounding them.

National I LOVE My Feet Day

For most people, feet are icky, yucky topics and most people do not love their feet. But some people do. Our feet have gotten most of us everywhere we have ever needed to go, whether we walked, biked, ran or even drove. There are ways to take care of our feet like elevating them to reduce possible swelling. Warm baths are good for them as well as making sure that your feet are dry before putting on socks or shoes. Take some time to take care of your feet come August 17th.

National Thrift Shop Day

Thrift shops are also known as a thrift store, charity shop, hospice shop, second-hand shop, consignment or resale shop. Some charitable organizations run these stores to raise money for charity, to help others post disaster or through hard times. Some stores purposely hire disabled people or have volunteers to run it, and often times, items you’re purchasing are donated. You can redecorate on a budget, dress for less, or have extra money for other things after saving at stores like these.

Which national celebration day do you want to enjoy? How about rum, sun, and a night filled with rest and relaxation?
