The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Next Gen update has landed on consoles and PC.
Alongside visual and technical upgrades, the new-gen update has added cross-saves and cross-progression to the game(Opens in a new window), which means players can access their Witcher 3 saves on different platforms from the one they first played on. The game also features content like outfits and gear inspired by the popular Netflix adaptation.
The action role-player franchise, developed by CD Projekt Red, is based on the fantasy novel series The Witcher and the first game was released in 2007. The series has shifted a cumulative total of 65 million(Opens in a new window), with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt proving the most popular, having sold over 40 million copies(Opens in a new window) as of April 2022.
The next-gen update has been a long time coming. In October 2021, CD Projekt Red pushed back its release target to the second quarter of 2022. It was then pushed back further until the developers announced its Dec. 14 release last month.
Its launch hasn’t come without some hiccups, though. Reddit users have complained about the PC update feeling “unplayable(Opens in a new window),” with unstable frame rates, HUD glitches, and crashes.

Some reviewers have already compared the update to the disastrous rollout of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020.
