These Are Some of the World’s Deadliest Extreme Sports

  • Would you try some of the world’s deadliest extreme sports?

There are different opinions on what the world’s deadliest extreme sports are. What do you think?

Extreme Ironing

This extreme sport literally involves people taking an ironing board to remote locations and ironing items of clothing. According to the Extreme Ironing Bureau, extreme ironing is “the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.” Are they for real?

Freediving

Freediving, also known as free-diving, free diving, breath holding and skin diving, is underwater diving with only the use of your breath. Professional free divers have spotters that meet them along the path, especially on the way up, as they often pass out from holding their breath.

Base Jumping

Base jumping is referenced in the movie Along Came Polly, where Leland leaps off the top of an office building, along with other stunts. He is nothing if not an adrenaline junkie living for all things extreme sports. This sport involves jumping from fixed objects. Wikipedia explains that ““BASE” is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennae (referring to radio masts), spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs).”

American Football

When you say “football” in other countries, it’s really soccer they’re talking about. Hence American football. Anyhow, although it’s not thought of as an extreme sport, it’s just because it’s so common, therefore not seen as dangerous. Early American football left dozens of people dead on the field after injuries from head to head collisions. Concussions remain a serious threat and injury on the field today, along with broken bones and more. Would you consider this to be one of the world’s deadliest extreme sports? Seems far fetched but also that fact about the early games is a little eerie.

Skydiving

Obviously considered an extreme sport, skydiving is a way of going from a high point in the atmosphere to the surface of the Earth with the aid of gravity. Of course there are a myriad of things that could happen on the way down, from hitting something to landing wrong and even the worst case scenario that your parachute doesn’t open.

Free Solo Climbing

In this form of climbing, climbers go without any protective equipment or rope, using only their climbing shoes and chalk. This is clearly the most dangerous form of rock climbing and climbers push the limit and climb above safe heights, where a fall can be fatal. This is absolutely one of the world’s deadliest extreme sports.

Downhill Mountain Biking

This extreme sport is insane and during a hiking trip, I saw mountain bikers on the outside of me (close to the edge)  on a literal path big enough in width only for the size of the bike tire. Absolutely crazy. For downhill mountain biking, you ride down steep, narrow trails, precipices, rock formations, and trees as fast as possible. If you’re into it, this is fun but can result in neck factures, head and spinal injuries, internal bleeding and organ damage, if not worse.

Heli Skiing

This sport is done off-trail, downhill skiing or snowboarding, where the skier reaches the top of the mountain by helicopter rather than ski lift. This is the most advanced of all skiing and only those with experienced skiing skills are encouraged to try this sport. Lots of training should go into this sport.
