Tom Brady injury update: Buccaneers QB says swollen finger is ‘doing a lot better’ ahead of Week 4

Tom Brady revealed on his “Let’s Go!” podcast last Monday that he was dealing with a finger injury.

“I banged it up pretty good, but it didn’t affect me at all in the game,” Brady said after Tampa Bay’s Week 2 win over the Saints. “Just going to be sore throughout the week, but one of those bumps and bruises that comes along with playing.”

Now, just a week later, he has provided another update on his finger via his podcast. It is one that Buccaneers fans will certainly welcome.

Brady’s podcast co-host Jim Gray asked the 45-year-old quarterback both how his finger was doing and whether it impacted his performance in Tampa Bay’s 14-12 loss to the Packers in Week 3.

First, Brady acknowledged that the injury didn’t have much of an impact on his performance.

“No, it didn’t affect it at all,” Brady said, as transcribed by Pro Football Talk.

This isn’t a major surprise. The Bucs didn’t win, but Brady showed no ill effects from that problem. He had a solid statistical outing against the Packers, going 31 of 42 passing for 271 yards and a touchdown despite being without Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Julio Jones at receiver.

And it doesn’t sound like it will be an issue heading into Week 4 either, as Brady explained.

It’s doing a lot better than last week. I mean, it was a pretty good swollen finger, but it’s just part of the game, and I think there’s a lot of bumps and bruises for guys across the league. If it was my left finger it would be totally insignificant. It was my right finger, so just deal with it a little bit.

So, it sounds like Brady might have to perform some maintenance on it to be at 100 percent against the Chiefs. But as he explained, the injury didn’t impact him much before Week 3 and it should only get better as he gets further removed from it.

“In the end, it really did nothing,” he said of the injury. “I practiced all week. I took every rep in practice and didn’t bother me at all in the game.”
