This week in NFL: Unsolved Mysteries: Who exactly was “that motherf—er” to whom Tom Brady referred in a now-viral clip?
The 45-year-old quarterback, entering his third season with the Buccaneers, has crossed another name off that list: former Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, as per his “Let’s Go!” podcast.
Tom Brady just said Ryan Fitzpatrick is NOT the m. f***** he was talking about. So, there’s that.

To recap, Brady appeared in a 2021 episode of HBO’s “The Shop,” in which he talked about his free agency the previous year following a stellar career with the Patriots. Several teams were naturally interested in his services, but one apparently decided to stick with the quarterback they had on the roster. That led to this clip:

The NFL at large has been trying to discern the identity of that quarterback since. With the recent news that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross tampered in an attempt to bring Brady to Miami (even before his free agency), Fitzpatrick assumed it was him (warning: strong language used).
But Brady’s dismissal of Fitzpatrick from the “motherf—er” sweepstakes has reopened the case again. So, who could it be?
Jimmy Garoppolo has been among the top of such discussions since the clip became viral, considering Brady is a California native and grew up rooting for the 49ers. But a new candidate has since taken over the top spot: Derek Carr of the Raiders.

That’s following news that broke before the start of the season in which UFC president Dana White claimed to have brokered a deal with Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski to send the pair to Las Vegas. White claimed that former coach Jon Gruden blew the deal up, resulting in the pair heading instead to Tampa Bay.
Brady, for what it’s worth, has not mentioned Carr in such discussions. So it could be him. Or it could not be.
Either way, this particular debate stands to have staying power in NFL: Unsolved Mysteries. For now, at least.
