Tracking new NBA uniforms this season: Suns and Pistons throwbacks among revealed jerseys for 2022-23

A new season on the horizon means a new look for some teams around the NBA, with several teams dropping new threads ahead of the in 2022-23 season.

With Nike issuing Association, Icon, Classic Edition and Statement Edition jerseys, teams have more options than ever to bring back retro looks, with some of our favorite jerseys reborn for 2022-23.

The Sporting News has you covered with all the latest jersey releases from around the Association.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns have a serious case for having the best set of uniforms in the league.

To commemorate the 1992-93 squad that finished with the league’s best record before making a run to the NBA Finals, Phoenix is bringing back its sunburst uniforms, made popular by Charles Barkley and company, but also worn by other legends like Jason Kidd and Steve Nash.

Milwaukee Bucks

How about another throwback?

Milwaukee is taking it back to the days of Sam Cassell, Ray Allen and Glenn Robinson with a purple look worn from 1994 to 2006. Allen made the 34 in Milwaukee famous but Giannis Antetokoumpo has made it legendary.

In addition to the classic purples, the Bucks are bringing back their “Earned Edition” uniforms from the 2021-22 season, but in a different color.

And man did they get it right with these black ones.

Milwaukee kept the deer antler theme on the sides, as well as the blue accent on the trim. There’s just something about the black uniform that helps the cream color pop even more.

Washington Wizards

In 1997, Washington’s professional basketball team adopted a new identity taking on a new “Wizards” moniker along with a color scheme featuring blue and bronze hues.

25 years later, the Wizards are throwing it back with their “Classic Edition” uniforms, which are sure to evoke memories of Juwan Howard, Rod Strickland, Michael Jordan, Jerry Stackhouse, Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, among many many others.

Los Angeles Lakers

As the Lakers celebrate their 75th season in the NBA, they’re throwing things back to Minneapolis with their “Classic Edition” uniforms for the 2022-23 season.

The home white uniforms feature the baby blue and yellow hues that the Lakers wore during the 1950s, when George Mikan suited up for the team.

Golden State Warriors

In 1968, the state of California officially adopted “The Golden State” as its official nickname and in 1971, the Warriors changed their moniker to the Golden State Warriors.

To commemorate those occurrences, the Warriors have introduced a new Statement Edition uniform, navy threads prominently featuring a “Golden State” wordmark, which has not been featured on their uniforms since 1975.

The franchise provided a brief history lesson along with the reveal of their newest uniform.

Along with the theme of history lessons, the Warriors are bringing back a “Classic Edition” uniform, throwing it back to the “Run TMC” days with Tim Hardaway, Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond.

Who better than Mullin to model the uniform?

And Stephen Curry clearly approves.

Detroit Pistons

It’s a new era in Detroit and they’re tapping into their past, bringing back the iconic teal uniforms, which served as their road jerseys from 1996-2001.

The teal Classic Edition uniform is expected to be worn in approximately 10 games during the 2022-23 season, bringing back memories of the Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse era.

More importantly, it marks the return of the ‘horsehead’ logo, a fitting tribute to the Motor City.

“To Pistons fans everywhere – we heard you, and this is for you,” said Mike Zavodsky, Chief Business Officer for the Detroit Pistons.

“The teal jerseys represent a ‘colorful’ time in Pistons basketball and NBA history. We are thrilled to re-introduce the teal to a new generation of basketball fans, and can’t wait to see this version of Detroit Basketball suit up in them.”

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs’ iconic silver and black threads are one of the staples of the NBA, but next season they’re adding some flair to their Statement Edition uniform.

The jersey features the new secondary SATX logo, with the sides featuring ‘patterns inspired from traditional Mexican serapes and saddle blankets’.

The Statement Edition is one of five jerseys the Spurs will rotate next season, with a new City Edition Uniform to be revealed later this year.

Cleveland Cavaliers

It’s a full rebrand for the Cleveland Cavaliers next season with a new collection of jerseys that includes the Association (white), Icon (wine) and Statement (black) core uniforms.

The Jordan-branded Statement Edition uniform takes inspiration from the black jerseys worn in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, the Cavs’ first-ever NBA championship.

Utah Jazz

It’s a brand new look for the Utah Jazz next season after they unveiled a fresh collection of uniforms.

The Jazz are bringing back the classic purple mountain uniforms, worn between 1996-2004, including two trips to the NBA FInals in 1997 and 1998. It also made a brief comeback in 2019-20 as the team’s Classic Edition uniform.

The white, black, and yellow sets represent the team’s new identity, while the classics will take center stage a number of times.

Along with the fresh threads, the Jazz will also feature two accompanying court designs at Vivint Arena in line with the new uniforms — one featuring the purple mountain and the second a back and yellow design featuring the iconic Jazz Note.

Both courts will also include a logo for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.

We’ll continue to update this page as more uniforms are released.
