Trea Turner contract details: Phillies, All-Star shortstop agree to massive 11-year deal

Fresh off their first World Series appearance since 2009, Dave Dombrowski, Sam Fuld and the rest of the Phillies front office aren’t resting on their laurels.

Philadelphia reportedly secured the services of All-Star shortstop Trea Turner on Monday with a massive contract. ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the first with the news.

Turner, 29, has long been one of baseball’s best infielders. He’s a good hitter and demon on the basepaths, a player more than familiar with NL East ballparks given his time with the Nationals.

Turner will join former Nats teammates Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber in the City of Brotherly Love as the Phils aim to retool for another run for the Commissioner’s Trophy in 2023.

With that, here’s what you need to know about the terms between Philadelphia and Turner.

Trea Turner contract details

Turner will be rolling in the dough when he starts suiting up for the Phils. Per ESPN’s Kiley McDaniels, Turner’s contract is an eye-popping 11-year, $300 million deal. That places him firmly among MLB’s highest-paid players.

The contract comes equipped with a full no-trade clause, a rarity among major league deals nowadays.

Given Turner’s standing around the league — he’s received NL MVP votes in three different years, including a fifth-place finish in 2021 — Turner is certainly one of baseball’s greatest talents.

He’ll reel in an average annual value (AAV) of $27.27 million, the third-highest AAV among shortstops (behind Francisco Lindor and Javier Baez). Carlos Correa, who opted out of his deal with the Twins, will likely nab a contract that matches or exceeds the value of the one Turner inked.

Turner is the 13th-highest-paid position player in the league by way of AAV. His contract is a far cry from the eye-watering numbers that Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon pull in. However, his new deal is quite comparable to that of Harper, who brings in an average yearly salary of $27.5 million.
