Late last night, Elon Musk tweeted that Twitter Blue is set to relaunch on Nov. 29.
Referring to the subscription as “Blue Verified(Opens in a new window),” Musk said the relaunch had been pushed back slightly “to make sure that it is rock solid.” When asked, Musk also confirmed that “All unpaid legacy Blue checkmarks will be removed in a few months.”
Twitter Blue has had quite the torrid time over the past three weeks. It transitioned from a free verified status service to a subscription that nearly cost $19.99 per month, but eventually launched for $7.99 on Nov. 5 following a backlash. It was then disabled on Nov. 11 following a wave of impersonation attempts.
Alongside that, Twitter has been flirting with an “Official” label and white checkmark reserved for “government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers, and some public figures.” The new label was introduced on Nov. 8, then Musk killed it within 24 hours only to have it reappear in recent days.

Beyond being “rock solid,” it’s hard to predict what the relaunch of the $7.99 Blue plan will offer subscribers. It will give you a blue checkmark, but it doesn’t include ID verification. There will be a range of features exclusive to subscribers, but we won’t know specifically what they are until the relaunch. Musk has made it clear, however, that one of the main aims of the new Blue plan is simply to make money.
