Venice: Priscilla Presley’s Emotional Revelations on Her Relationship with Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s Biopic

Priscilla Opens Up About Her Connection with Elvis, Dissects 'Priscilla,' and Debunks Misconceptions

Priscilla Presley, though absent from the press conference panel for Sofia Coppola’s Venice competition film “Priscilla,” made a heartfelt appearance from the audience. Holding back tears, she offered an emotional tribute to the film and delved into her relationship with her late husband, the iconic Elvis Presley.

“It’s very challenging to witness a film that revolves around your own life, love, and experiences,” she admitted. “But Sofia did an incredible job. She thoroughly researched it, and I gave her all the insights I could.”

Reflecting on her connection with Elvis, whom she first met at the tender age of 14, Priscilla disclosed the challenges her parents faced in comprehending Elvis’s profound interest in her. She emphasized that she primarily played the role of a confidante in their relationship.

“Elvis would confide in me, pouring out his heart – his hopes, his fears, and his pain, especially after losing his mother. I was the one who listened and provided solace. That was the core of our connection. Despite my young age of 14, I possessed a maturity beyond my years,” she revealed. “That’s what drew us together. People often assume it was solely physical, but that’s far from the truth. We never engaged in sexual relations. He was incredibly gentle, affectionate, and, most importantly, he respected my age. Our connection was more intellectual and emotional.”

Sofia Coppola, who made a rare appearance alongside her lead stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi at the Venice 2023 press conference, also addressed the ongoing actors’ strike.

“I’m here today as a director and producer to support independent cinema and my team, and I wholeheartedly support the union’s relentless efforts to secure fair compensation,” Coppola affirmed. “I sincerely hope that this matter will be resolved promptly because there are countless individuals eager to return to work.”

“Priscilla,” based on the 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me” co-authored by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon, is set to premiere worldwide on the Lido, promising an intimate glimpse into the life of an iconic couple.
