An unsuspecting woman was left ‘terrified’ after one of the world’s most venomous eight-legged spiders crawled into her ear in the middle of the night and made itself at home

Susie Torres, from Kansas in Missouri, endured an arachnophobe’s worst nightmare when a venomous spider crawled inside her ear whilst she was fast asleep.
When Ms Torres took herself to the doctors after hearing a “swishing sound” that wouldn’t budge, it was then revealed that a brown recluse spider was in fact living inside her ear.
The venomous spider is so called due to their tendency to tuck themselves into small spaces.
According to Livescience, Ms Torres told KSHB-TV in Kansas City what happened when a nurse peered inside her ear.
She explained: “She ran out and said, ‘I’m going to get a couple more people’.

“She then said, ‘I think you have an insect in there.'”
It is likely that the spider snuck into Ms Torres’ ear while she was asleep and thankfully, she was not bitten by the venomous creature.
Once the brown recluse was removed from her ear, Ms Torres was fine — but she won’t be taking any chances from now on, she said.
Ever since the incident, she has been sleeping with cotton balls in her ears to avoid another mishap.

Ms Torres, who was understandably shaken up by the incident, explained: “I’m pretty terrified of spiders.”
While its bite isn’t fatal, the brown recluse can cause severe tissue damage, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Its venom contains a toxin that can kill the skin, sometimes leaving an open wound as large as a human hand.
However, this is not the first time a venomous spider has crawled inside an unsuspecting person while they’re fast asleep.

In 2019, a web designer called in sick to work due to suffering from earache and vertigo, only to find that a spider had crawled inside his ear overnight.
Liam Gomez, who had earlier disturbed a nest full of baby spiders in his doorway, woke up one morning with a mysterious blocked ear.
The 27-year-old began to feel dizzy and could feel a scratching sensation within his ear.
He attempted to solve the issue by putting olive oil down his ear and was left horrified when a spider’s leg stuck to the end of a cotton bud.
The self-professed arachnophobe from Folkestone in Kent said at the time: “My initial reaction was just to get the bloody thing out of me as fast as possible – I was obviously revolted as I hate spiders!
“Once I’d calmed down a bit I did then think ‘well, that’s one for Facebook!’.
“Total sod’s law as I’m an arachnophobe – absolute nightmare! And the irony is – I’m a WEB designer for a living!”
Much like Ms Torres’ cotton ball trick, Mr Gomez stated that following the ordeal, he’d be wearing ear muffs at night to ensure that the incident doesn’t happen again.
