After a high-octane affair in Week 1, the question for Philadelphia’s secondary were simple: can they shut down Minnesota and, more namely, its supernova of a receiver, Justin Jefferson.
They gave a resounding answer on Monday night. Jefferson was held quiet, accounting just six catches for 48 yards. The Eagles’ defense forced plucked three Kirk Cousins throws out the sky, pushing them past a Vikings team that looked rather ordinary amid a raucous pro-Philly crowd.
The stars showed up for the Eagles on Monday. Miles Sanders racked up nearly five yards a carry. Fletcher Cox forced a fumble. Dallas Goedert was a vertical threat.
However, the two standouts were Jalen Hurts and Darius Slay. Hurts dominated the game under center, missing the target just five times on Monday. He racked up over 300 passing yards to go along with 57 rushing yards, becoming the first Eagles quarterback to hit those marks in the same game since Michael Vick did so back in 2010.
Slay, meanwhile, was a menace in coverage. He locked up Jettas, not allowing a single catch when matched up against the All-Pro. Slay was also responsible for two of Cousins picks, snagging both out the sky while in the red zone to preserve Philadelphia’s lead.
All in all, it was a marvelous display by the Eagles, one that seemingly cements their status as the team to beat in the NFC East. With Hurts and Slay leading the way, it looks like Philly could be a real problem in 2022.

Vikings vs. Eagles live updates, highlights from ‘Monday Night Football’ game
(All times Eastern)
11:20 p.m.: That will do it from Philadelphia. Hurts and Slay lead the Eagles duo a 24-7 win over the Vikings.
11:00 p.m.: INTERCEPTION! Cousins drops back and hurls an under thrown ball right into the path of Darius Slay. That’s Slay’s second pick of the day. What a performance so far. Per the broadcast, Slay hasn’t given up a single reception when matched up against Jefferson tonight.
Question marks have to be raised about Cousins’ display. He made the same throw a play earlier, one that was nearly intercepted by Slay. Then he did it again. Baffling decision-making. That’s his third pick of the day. That’s also the third pick he’s thrown inside Philly’s 30-yard line.
10:55 p.m.: INTERCEPTION! Kenneth Gainwell loses track of the ball on a screen play and deflects it right into the path of ex-Eagle Jordan Hicks, who then brings the ball back inside Philly’s 10-yard line. This has to be a touchdown if you’re the Vikings, right?
10:50 p.m.: Fletcher Cox smacks the ball out of Cousins’ hand on third down. However, the ball tumbles into the belly of a Vikings player.
Minnesota is going to punt the ball away. A little more than eight minutes left.
10:47 p.m.: A pair of really impressive throws by Cousins, who whipped a ball right into Thielen’s hands on the sideline for one first and then lofted a ball into Smith’s grasp for another first a few plays later.
Minnesota’s going to need more of that to get itself back into the game.
10:40 p.m.: Hurts put together some more lively throws over the course of his last drive. However, felled by a holding penalty that negated a big pass play, the Eagles were forced to punt.
Reagor still getting his fair share of boos today. Philly fans are relentless, to say the least.
Third quarter
10:36 p.m.: That’ll do it for the third quarter. While it was a scoreless frame, there was plenty of excitement: three turnovers and plenty of highlight reel moments.
Let’s see if Minnesota can get anything going and spark yet another momentous comeback in Week 2.
10:29 p.m.: INTERCEPTION! Cousins doesn’t see Avonte Maddox lurking underneath the coverage and tries to sling the ball to Adam Thielen. Maddox times the throw perfectly and rises up to pluck the Vikings quarterback.

It goes from bad to worse for Minnesota today. The Vikings just can’t get it going on offense.
10:26 p.m.: BLOCKED FIELD GOAL! Patrick Peterson comes around the end and gets his paw on Elliott’s field goal attempt. Kris Boyd scoops it up and takes it all the way to Philly’s 30-yard line! Could that be the spark of life Minnesota needed?

10:23 p.m.: AJ Brown is starting to find his rhythm. He just bagged a 23-yard gain after fielding a pass from Hurts and finding the outside. Now, he tacks on another 12 yards after a nice grab on a curl route.
10:20 p.m.: Philly is finding it relatively easy to carve through this Vikings defense. Miles Sanders picks up yet another first down after slaloming through the tackles. He’s averaging nearly five yards a carry today. That’s not ideal if you’re Minnesota.
10:14 p.m.: INTERCEPTION! Slay makes a fantastic snag at the goal line after cutting off Jefferson from making his slant. He then ran to the sideline and handed the football to James Harden. Because of course he did.

That’s a back-breaker for Minnesota’s offense. Great stand by Philly, though.
10:11 p.m.: Vikings getting their first drive of the second half off to a good start. Cousins connected with Jefferson and Mundt for first downs. That’s followed up with a first down scamper by Cook, who added another first down via a catch and run out in the flat.
Minnesota is surging towards the red zone.
Second quarter
9:53 p.m.: FIELD GOAL! Eagles nab another three points to end the first half after Jake Elliott finds the target from 38 yards out. Lovely first half display by the Eagles’ offense and defense.

Eagles 24, Vikings 7
9:37 p.m.: Another three-and-out for Minnesota’s offense. It just can’t find a way pass Philly’s defense so far.
9:31 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! After a pair of drives end with punts, Hurts finds the end zone from 26 yards out! That’s his third touchdown of the day and the first one to come on the ground. Philadelphia is pouring it on early.

Good stuff from Cousin on that last drive. All passes hit their mark.
Eagles 14, Vikings 7
9:18 p.m.: Johnny Mundt with a sumptuous route as he racks up 17 yards on a catch. Vikings right outside the red zone.
9:17 p.m.: Cousins finds KJ Osborn for the first down. The Vikings are in the red zone for the first time today.
9:16 p.m.: Jettas snags a first down for the Vikings. This is a good drive for Minnesota.
9:13 p.m.: Jalen Reagor fields a toss play to nab the first down. Every single time he touches the ball, he’s being accompanied by a cacophony of boos.
9:10 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Hurts airs it out with ease, finding Watkins on the out route. 53 yards to the house. I’m pretty sure Watkins could have moonwalked into the end zone with how much space he found.
Hurts is perfect so far: 10/10 with 154 yards and two touchdowns. That’s what Philly fans will like to see.
Eagles 14, Vikings 0
First quarter
9:07 p.m.: A two-yard Miles Sanders gain near the middle of the field closes the first quarter out. Great showing by Hurts. Also a whole lot of penalties so far. Nonetheless, it’s the Eagles with the early lead.
Eagles 7, Vikings 0
9:04 p.m.: The perfect day continues for Hurts, who is 8/8 after whipping a ball into Smith’s grasp past the marker for first down. Really strong showcase so far by the third-year signal-caller.
8:58 p.m.: That’s a quick three-and-out for the Vikings’ O. Eagles defense stepping it up early.
8:55 p.m.: Hurts goes down! Huge pressure by Minnesota ends in a Danielle Hunter sack. Looks like the Birds are going to have to punt it.
8:53 p.m.: Seemed Philly had the first down after Hurts hit Goedert. However, the refs make a bizarre offensive pass interference call on Smith. Now, it’s third-and-long.
8:51 p.m.: Quez Watkins puts Patrick Peterson on his butt with a mystifying in-and-out move before Hurts finds him with a floated pass. Makes it third and short.
8:50 p.m.: Muffed snap ends up on the ground for the Eagles. However, Sanders reacts quickly, jumping over the ball to prevent the turnover.
8:47 p.m.: The Darius Slay-Justin Jefferson will be one to watch tonight. Slay has already called Jettas one of the league’s best wideouts. However, Slay takes the first battle, knocking the ball away from Jefferson to force Minnesota to punt.
8:46 p.m.: Justin Jefferson makes his first grab of the night. However, the Eagles don’t give him an inch, making it third down.
8:45 p.m.: Vikings take the field. First play is a run through the tackles by Dalvin Cook, who got absolutely stuffed at the line.
8:39 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN! Hurts with some scrambling magic inside the ten-yard line. He keeps the ball on the RPO, planting his foot into the ground before muscling his way into the end zone.

Wonderful drive by Hurts and the Birds. That will help build some confidence.
Eagles 7, Vikings 0
8:38 p.m.: Hurts is making some lovely throws under pressure. He hit Zach Pascal with a laser beam after taking a hit from Eric Kendricks on third down. Repeated the feat on the very next play, this time finding Goedert.
Hurts is 5/5 so far.
8:36 p.m.: Philly had a decent gain wiped out by a penalty. However, Hurts found AJ Brown with a zipped pass for 19 yards on the very next play. Seems that Minnesota is opting for softer coverage, giving Hurts and his offense the chance to pick them apart through this opening drive.
8:33 p.m.: Decent start to action for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles. Already has gotten the ball to DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert so far. Miles Sanders also nabbed himself a first down on his first carry of the game. Eagles with the ball over the 50.
8:31 p.m.: Greg Joseph boots a short kickoff to the 10-yard line, and the game has started!
