Instagram is preparing to test a repost button with select users “soon.”
The feature—first spotted by(Opens in a new window) social media consultant Matt Navarra on Instagram Head Adam Mosseri’s account—appears as a double-arrow icon alongside grid posts, Reels, guides, and tagged photos. It’s unclear whether the tab will house your content that others have shared, other people’s content that you’ve reshared, or a mix of both.
Instagram did not immediately respond to PCMag’s request for comment, but a Meta spokesperson tells TechCrunch(Opens in a new window) it’s “exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed—similar to how you can reshare in Stories—so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited with their work.”
The option will roll out to “a small number of people” soon, the spokesperson adds.
You can already share another person’s post via Stories. But there is currently no option to do the same on the grid; folks instead rely on third-party apps to share images and videos from someone else’s account. But, as TechCrunch points out, a repost button would cut out the middleman, giving people a simpler way to widely share posts and Reels.

Instagram appears to have been working on reposts for at least a few months, based on(Opens in a new window) app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi’s ongoing thread of tweets, which began in May. “The introductory screen has changed a bit,” he wrote today, alongside a screenshot inviting users to “recommend a post your friends may enjoy by reposting it to feed or story” or “spark a conversation with your followers, who can reply to your repost with a message.”
