What are the Oddest Records Broken in The Middle East?

  • How many scorpions can you fit in your mouth? Our answer was “zero,” as we refused to find out…

In the realm of world records, each country and region has its unique approach, often choosing attempts that reflect their traditions or history. However, in the Middle East, record-breaking appears to be more of a lighthearted pastime, with odds at the Middle East’s best online betting sites very much favoring their success. As a result, some rather odd feats have been achieved, such as holding the most lethal scorpions in one’s mouth or gathering the largest group of men with the same name. In this article, we will take a look at the oddest records that were broken in the Middle East.

The Longest Crochet Blanket

You’d think nobody needs an endless blanket of 11,148 square meters, right? Well, not if you ask some people in Bahrain that decided it’s about time to smash the world record in this category. Not only did they break the previous record, they absolutely smashed it, considering the previous record set in South Africa was of a blanket that measured 3,3388 square meters. No less than 47 women from Bahrain worked to piece together over 5,000 blankets to get the monstrous piece of cloth that was displayed in Chennai, India. It’s curious whether anyone will attempt to take down this record.

Most Scorpions in the Mouth

If the previous record seemed pointless, the next one is nothing short of astounding and downright bizarre. A man from Saudi Arabia dared to explore the limits of how many scorpions he could fit inside his mouth, leaving many of us wondering who would ever have such an unusual curiosity. To our surprise, Maged Elmalke from Riyadh managed to squeeze in a staggering 22 scorpions, setting an outrageous record in 2008 that still stands to this day. It’s no wonder that this feat has yet to be surpassed!

Most Nationalities Washing Hands at the Same Time

Another quirky world record from the Middle East comes from Dubai. Have you ever wondered what’s the maximum number of nationalities that washed their hands simultaneously? Neither did we! But if you ever find yourself in some sort of twister Trivia game, you should know that the answer is 72. The 72 nationalities got together in Dubai in 2012 to celebrate Global Handwashing Day. We won’t bore you with a list of all the nationalities, of course, but half the world’s countries were there.

The Fastest a Horse Can do 10 Meters on its Hind Legs

Another intriguing one comes from the UAE, which has a passion for horses and racing. However, the horse is not standing on all fours as it should. Everyone can ride a horse with all four feet. Why not limit yourself to two? Desert, a skillful horse, managed to cross the 10-meter distance in 9.21 seconds using only its hind legs and was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2016. Furthermore, any animal rights activists can rest certain that the animals were not pushed, tugged, or coerced in any manner throughout this attempt.

Largest Flag Worn During Skydiving

Even using the top online betting site in the Middle East, you couldn’t anticipate the size of the largest flag flown while skydiving. You may argue that no one asks themselves such questions. While that is true, several guys in the UAE believed it was worth a go. On November 29, many skydivers took a stadium-sized flag with them and jumped from 9,500 feet above the ground to commemorate the UAE National Day. The flag became the largest in the world, measuring about 5,000 square meters and weighing 95 kilos, and it was verified by the Guinness World Records adjudicator.

Heaviest Truck Pulled by Hair

We end our list with another crazy record that’s all about testing hair strength. Let’s see you now, cosmetic brands! During the UAE National Day celebrations in December 2017, Mahmood Shamshun Al Arab, a resident of the UAE, earned a world record by using his hair to pull a heavy vehicle. He accomplished the feat in Fujairah, managing to tow a 10.3 ton truck entirely with his hair.

Final Thoughts

The list of bizarre and jaw-dropping records set in Middle Eastern countries is endless. People are interested in strange things all throughout the world, but because the Middle East is more conservative, you wouldn’t expect to hear so many creepy records here. Which of our accomplishments is your favorite? Do you have any additional examples of how brave and outgoing the people in this region are?
