What happened to Christian Pulisic? USA star clarifies he ‘didn’t get hit in the balls’ in injury vs Iran

Christian Pulisic did a bit of clarifying Thursday.

The U.S. men’s national team star was subbed off after colliding with Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand while in the process of scoring what turned out to be the winning goal Tuesday.

He was taken to a local hospital and subsequently diagnosed with a “pelvic contusion,” which led to widespread speculation about the nature of his injury. However, Pulisic insisted Thursday that the injury sustained during his goal-mouth scramble had nothing to do with especially sensitive regions.

What is Christian Pulisic’s injury?

Speaking with reporters ahead of Saturday’s Round of 16 clash with Netherlands, Pulisic explained his view of his ailment.

“Like, I didn’t get, like, hit in the balls,” Pulisic said with a chuckle, according to Fox Sports’ Doug McIntyre.

“I took a knee…to a nice pelvis area — it was not nice,” he added, “Obviously very painful.”

Pulisic crumbled to the pitch after netting the go-ahead goal in the 38th minute. He stayed down for several minutes, wincing in pain before returning to action after being helped up by U.S. training staff. He gutted it out for the remainder of the first half before being swapped for Brenden Aaronson at the start of the second.

Despite recent comments from his teammates — the likes of Tyler Adams, Tim Weah and others indicated that Pulisic would do everything in his power to feature on Saturday — he’s still being listed as “day-to-day.”

“I’m gonna go meet now with the team and the medical staff, and make a decision on today,” Pulisic said of his participation in training on Thursday. “Just kinda see how I’m feeling, taking it day by day right now. But doing everything in my power to be able to be out there on the field Saturday.”
