WhatsApp Makes Messaging Yourself Easy

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets you chat with yourself.

As its name suggests, the “Message Yourself” function makes it easy for users to send notes, shopping lists, memes, etc. to themselves using the messaging app.

As TechCrunch reports(Opens in a new window), following recent beta tests, the new feature is now rolling out globally to Android and iOS users. To get started talking to yourself, tap the new chat icon in the upper right corner and then tap your name at the top of the contacts list to initiate the chat.

It’s long been possible to send messages to your own phone number using the app’s “click to chat” function(Opens in a new window) and a wa.me link. Some people found a workaround by creating a one-member group, but this new feature eliminates the need to do that.

This isn’t exactly a groundbreaking idea, though: Rival service Signal‘s Note to Self feature lets users create messages for personal use, Slack provides a dedicated space to “Jot Something Down,” and Telegram feature Saved Messages allows folks to bookmark important conversations and store notes and reminders.
