When are the College Football Playoff rankings released? Time, channel for second CFP selection show in 2022

Time is slowly winding down for teams to state their cases to make the College Football Playoff in 2022.

Luckily for several teams — most notably TCU — several teams central to the CFP argument suffered massive losses in Week 10, opening up the possibility for several other teams to make a late-season charge.

No. 1 Tennessee, No. 4 Clemson and No. 6 Alabama all lost on Saturday, with the Volunteers and Crimson Tide falling to No. 3 Georgia and No. 10 LSU, respectively.

Of those three, it appears the Volunteers have the best chance of making the Playoff, despite their 27-13 loss to the Bulldogs. Clemson had looked like a vulnerable undefeated team, and its unranked loss to Notre Dame on Saturday is a massive blight on the team’s resume. Alabama’s second loss of the season all but assures the Crimson Tide are out of the running as well.

Where does that leave the rest of the contenders? Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan should make up the top three rankings. The committee is notoriously mercurial when it comes to in-season rankings, but it should place TCU, the last remaining undefeated team, at No. 4.

After that, Tennessee could lead a host of one-loss programs on the fringe of the Playoff conversation, including a trio of Pac-12 teams in Oregon, USC and UCLA.

With that, here’s how you can tune in and watch the second set of CFP rankings for the 2022 season:

MORE: Projected Week 11 CFP rankings

Projected CFP rankings: Who are the top four teams in college football?

1. Georgia (9-0)
2. Ohio State (9-0)
3. Michigan (9-0)
4. TCU (9-0)

Next two out:

5. Tennessee (8-1)
6. Oregon (8-1)

The trio of losses among top-10 teams has vastly shaken up The Sporting News’ projected CFP rankings for Week 11. Georgia and Ohio State remain atop the polls, with Michigan moving up a spot to replace Tennessee at No. 3. TCU, the last remaining undefeated Power 5 team, slots in at the fourth overall spot.

That said, not all is lost for the Volunteers, who are projected at No. 5 overall by TSN. They could very well sneak into the Playoff with one of Michigan or Ohio State guaranteed to lose before the final rankings; that, of course, assumes the committee wouldn’t place a one-loss ACC, Big 12 or Pac-12 champion ahead of the Volunteers.
