A woman was horrified after receiving a threatening note from an angry neighbour about an ongoing dispute regarding her cat. The pet owner said they were “mortified” by the note as it directly threatened her pet, saying it would “disappear” if the situation didn’t improve.

The woman, from Brisbane, Australia, knew things were escalating with the neighbour after a row was sparked when their cats got into a fight. She tried to calm the situation by keeping her cat inside but it escaped, and now she’s at her wit’s end as relations with the neighbour have turned sour, so she’s turned to the internet for advice.

The note sounded very threatening

What would you do in the woman’s situation? Let us know in the comments…

Taking to Reddit, the woman captioned her post “neighbours sent me a letter”, alongside a picture of the note, which reads: “Control your animals or they will disappear!”

She then explained about the cats fighting, and shared measures that she made to resolve the situation.

She said: “I was mortified and apologetic and immediately removed the cat flap on the back door and replaced the door so she can’t get out.”

The woman explained that the note was written on a printed page of council information about ‘responsible pet ownership’ with relevant sections highlighted.

She explained that she tried to keep her cat inside but sometimes her children would leave the windows open and the pet would escape, and soon there’d be another complaint.

But she insisted that the neighbour’s cat was also partly to blame, as it would fight with her pet in her garden.

She continued: “Their cat has also been over to our side of the road so it’s a bit pot calling the kettle black.

“The neighbours who complained to me have giant aggressive dogs that jump up on their fence and go crazy every time someone goes past and we live opposite a kids park.

“Oh, and my next-door neighbour’s dog barks all night at 3am when she’s on shift so it’s just a whole load of hypocrisy that I’m getting the threats.”

After asking for advice, the woman was inundated with a range of comments as people on Reddit seemed divided by the issue.

One wrote: “Take it seriously. My family received a letter and the cat ‘went missing’. Try to change whatever it is that the cat is doing”

Another said: “Keep the letter, thats evidence of an illegal threat. Police might be interested.”

And a third added: “People need to be responsible for their animals.”
