A woman says she now fears she may have made a mistake after calling the police about her neighbour’s crying baby. According to this concerned woman, she was worried the child was being abused because it was crying so much, despite her flatmate’s reassurances that it just had colic.
The 25-year-old woman has explained that she herself had been abused as a child, and says she didn’t consider the baby to have a “normal cry”. Having recently moved into a two-story apartment with a friend, the worried tenant says they can hear “everything” that happens inside their own home.
Although she’s gotten used to this setup, she began to feel uncomfortable about the baby’s constant cries and decided to take action when she could hear the “baby cry so loud that you could even hear it from the street.” It was then that she made a very serious decision.

Taking to Reddit, the woman – who goes by the username u/throwra_dngerous – wrote: “I decided to call the police then and report child abuse. The police came and knocked on my neighbour’s door and soon enough she opened it and was shocked to see the police and so was her husband who was holding the baby.
“They asked her about her baby and she tells them that her baby recently got her shots and she’s been in pain since coming home from the hospital. The officers inspected their whole apartment and found nothing suspicious and left.”
When her friend found out about what had happened, she wasn’t happy at all, and her neighbours were also furious at the actions she’d taken. Now she’s begun to wonder whether she might have gone about things differently in hindsight.
A number of fellow Reddit users have now advised her to be much more cautious in the future, arguing that she really had no evidence to base such serious allegations on.
One person commented: “You had absolutely no evidence or reasoning to believe this was a case of child abuse. I’m sorry that you were abused as a child but it’s affecting your judgment and you should talk to a professional to help you work on it.”
Another said: “I had a colicky baby and they can scream continuously day and night. Talk to your neighbour. They’d be stressed enough without the police coming over. You have zero evidence.”
