Woman claims driver ‘ran her over’ in supermarket parking spat – but he calls her ‘a chancer’

A woman was left horrified after her husband almost ran someone over, but then the person started to lie about the incident, threatening her husband with the police

Reversing out of a parking space can be a nightmare at the best of times, but when there’s someone particularly aggressive and rude in your blind spot, it can get a hundred times worse as one man found when he had to slam his breaks on to stop himself from hitting her in the supermarket car park.

The man’s wife later took to Mumsnet to fume about what had happened as the woman later falsely claimed that her husband had run her over, and she even ‘burst out crying’ in front of supermarket staff to garner sympathy from others.

The woman even claimed she was ‘scared’ of the woman’s husband, and needed an escort to the car as she was so fearful.

The woman wrote: “In the supermarket with family. My husband leaves store to nip across the road in car for extra bits while we finish shop.

“He goes to inch out of parking space only to discover a random lady was in his blind spot walking to the store with her trolley. Warning sensors beeped – he stopped immediately.

“He said lady then proceeded to bang on the window and demand he gets out and speaks to her and a whole s*** show of drama ensues.”

The woman who the man almost reversed into claimed that the man ‘touched her hip with his car’ and then threatened to call the police. The woman said that her husband was very apologetic as he is a ‘people pleaser’ but the woman gave him a ‘long lecture about how to drive’.

The woman started to take pictures of the car, number plate, and the man involved as ‘evidence’ and said she wasn’t hurt, but she didn’t feel like his apology was sincere.

The original poster continued: “He asks how he can resolve and she says it’s up to him to ‘convince her he’s sorry’. Repeatedly threatening to call the police. My husband offers to call them himself and as soon as he dials she disappears off into the shop.”

The woman explained that when she met up with her husband again he was ‘shaken’ and worried he’d be ‘in some sort of trouble if she made an accusation at a later date’.

She wrote: “As luck would have it we bump into her later at the exit and she is with a manager. She starts CRYING and saying she needs to be escorted to her car because she was run over and is scared of my husband.

“Anyway, I got tired of seeing my husband groveling to her so I may/may not have told her where to stick her trolley. Interested to know how other people would have handled it.”

People were shocked at the woman’s dramatic behaviour, and said they probably would’ve handled the situation in a similar way.

One wrote: “I would have told her to calm down.

“I mean yeah your husband should be checking his blind spot but you don’t start walking out in front of reversing cars (she must have seen reverse lights).

“Unless your husband was reversing quickly without looking I’d be annoyed with your husband, but how she behaved afterwards with not accepting his apology etc was very much drama llama.

“Your husband, unfortunately, picked the wrong person to, in her words, run her over but nothing will come of it tell him not to worry but look out for people in the car park next time.”

Another fumed: “I would have asked for the CCTV and called the police – she sounds like a chancer wanting to make a claim.”

Someone else wrote: “This is where you are better to reverse in to the space. I know it’s harder to get to the boot, but it would prevent this type of scenario.”
