This year was the first time she had been there to see her partner open the presents and was staggered when she saw how much money he was given despite him not paying full rent

Christmas is now behind us so people up and down the country will be decompressing from all the food and starting to enjoy their presents.
But one woman is fuming with her partner as she found that he receives thousands of pounds from his parents each year and does not tell her, despite the fact he claims he struggles to pay rent.
This was the first year the woman had been around when he opened his presents and could not believe that he got a cheque for £2,000 which the parents even apologised for as it was ‘not as much’ as last year.

Taking to the ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ forum on Mumsnet, the woman explained that they have been together for four years and he has never mentioned receiving this much money from his parents and was even cagey about the cheque this year which he tried to get past her without her seeing.
In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: “This was the first year I’ve been there when he opened his presents from his parents.
“One of which was a cheque, which came with the apology that it wasn’t as much as usual as they’ve had to spend money on stuff this year. He didn’t think I’d seen him open it as I was doing something else at the time. It was for £2000.”
She went onto explain that the cheque had not been shown to her but she had a glance when he was not looking and feels annoyed that he would not mention this to her.
“We live month to month. I earn more than he does and the rent he pays doesn’t cover what it costs for him to live here, but he pays as much as he can,” said the woman.
“We’ve never been abroad since we’ve been together as we’ve not had the money but we’ve had a few weekends away that I’ve paid for.
“The last few Christmas’s I’ve had to put the £100 or so I’ve received into our bills pot so we can afford January. I’m annoyed he keeps this quiet.”
In response, many have supported the woman and said that they would be annoyed if their partner had hidden this amount of money from them.
One person wrote: “I’d be annoyed too especially since his contribution doesn’t cover his share of your monthly bills so you’re subsidising him!”
While another said: “If you are subsidising him because he tells you he can’t afford to pay his way yet he’s hiding money from you, that’s pretty awful. Deceptive and deeply unfair of him.”
