Woman left fuming as neighbours ask her to stop parking outside of her own home

A woman has been left feeling annoyed after her neighbours asked her not to park in front of her own home as they wanted to use the space for a guest – and things got heated between them

A woman asked to park further away from her house rather than inconvenience her neighbours, has taken to Mumsnet venting her fury. On-street residential parking always has the potential to turn into a long-running feud, they have even made TV shows about it.

The woman, who goes by the username of ParkingFeud, was furious when her neighbours – with a drive – wanted to keep the space outside their house free for guests and workmen.

“They wanted me to park it on a separate street further away from where we live,” she said. “We rent a terraced house on a green with no parking.

“There is space outside our house for one car and the other has to go somewhere on the green.”

It’s a scenario familiar up and down the land.

She goes on to explain: “Someone on the other side with a drive has just asked me not to park my car near their house as it is inconvenient for their guests and work men.”

And while she was annoyed by their request, the renter refused to bow down to it.

The unnamed woman told her neighbours: “I would love to be able to afford a house with a drive, but there’s a housing crisis and I can’t.”

She added: “My car can be parked anywhere legally that I fancy. I don’t understand people who think they own the road outside their houses. Am I being unreasonable?”

It seems she’s asking the right audience, because most agree with her.

One person replied: “You are more polite than I am. I think the phrase I’d have used was ‘tough s**t, do you think you own the road outside your house?'”

Another reassures here: “Whoa, they want convenience for people who don’t even live there, over your convenience. You’re not at all unreasonable.”

“How cheeky – I could maybe understand slightly for workmen, seeing as this would only be temporary,” commented someone else. “But for guests?! Naaaah I wouldn’t, park where you like!!!”

However a different user was a bit more reasonable, adding: “And of course you would not want to inconvenience the same person all the time, so I hope you do park in a variety of other places reasonable convenient to you. Neighbourliness and all that.”
