A woman was left baffled when her date branded her as ‘fake’ for the helpful habit she has whenever she visits a McDonald’s – but people say she saw his true colours

We all have little quirks and habits that we do every time we go to a restaurant – whether it’s stacking the plates at the end of a meal in an attempt to be helpful to staff, or always asking for substitutions because you don’t like one ingredient included in the meal. But one woman has been left baffled after her date called her out for something she did during a recent trip to McDonald’s.
The woman explained she went on a first date to the fast food restaurant, and once the pair had finished their meal, she stood up to take the tray and the empty wrappers to the bin – but was stopped by her date, who told her there were “people employed to do this job”.

And when she insisted that she likes to take care of her own tray in order to be helpful to McDonald’s staff, her date accused her of being “fake” and trying to make him “seem like a bad person”.
In a Reddit post, the woman said: “I went on a blind date and we met at McDonald’s. I know it’s not the perfect place for the first date, but we had our reasons. We had a good talk and when we finished, I cleaned up our table.
“As soon as I picked up the tray he said ‘you don’t need to throw it, there are people employed to do this job’. I was like ‘it’s fine, it’s my habit so I don’t mind.’
“The next day our common friend told me that the guy thinks I’m fake and was trying to make him seem like a bad person.”
Commenters on the post were equally baffled by the man’s reaction, with many of them saying the woman “dodged a bullet” by learning about his true colours before going on further dates with him.
One person said: “Sounds like you dodged a bullet. I can’t imagine this going anywhere good.”
While another added: “You learn a lot about people from how they treat service workers.”
And a third wrote: “What a jerk. Any fast food restaurant that has trash receptacles available is expecting adults to clean up after themselves. Spray and towels are not readily available so they don’t expect us to wipe the tables down. It’s so simple, his response to you doing a normal adult thing says a lot about his character.”
