A woman has revealed how she uses a vacuum cleaner to keep her artificial lawn nice and clean, prompting a variety of strong opinions on both sides. According to this UK-based cleaning fan, her husband thinks she’s being “weird” for hoovering their lawn as though it were a carpet, but she has no plans to stop anytime soon.
Hailing the out-there gardening hack as a “game changer”, the unnamed woman loves the satisfying sound of the pipe sucking everything up, and has encouraged others to give it a try. The unconventional gardener also uses her Hetty hoover to clean her patio and jokes that any disapproving neighbours are probably “just jealous.”

Taking to TikTok, the amused wife – who goes by the username @bubrrece – wrote: “My husband thinks it’s weird that I hoover our fake grass, but this is the easiest way to clean it?”, sharing a clip of herself contentedly vacuuming the lawn.
The handy tip has been liked more than 22.4k times and counting, and many others have admitted to doing exactly the same thing.
One person wrote: “I hoover mine every week & spray it so it smells like fresh cut grass. My neighbours give me funny looks a lot.”
Another confessed: “I have a designated cordless hoover that I got given and didn’t need one so it lives outside in the shed as the Astro hoover.”

A number of followers have offered additional tips including using Fabulosa carpet foam on the fake grass, and washing it to ensure a squeaky clean finish. However, others have encouraged her to just use a leaf blower instead.
A third person, who says they have tried the exact same method in the past, warned: “No, it brings up the sand which is needed in the artificial grass, sorry to say. I’ve learned from my own mistakes!”
According to the Artificial Lawn website: “You should refrain from using a vacuum cleaner on your synthetic turf as the suction will remove the infill sand from the grass area. Equally, any rainfall and/or condensation can damage your vacuum if it is not designed to clean damp surfaces.
“For regular maintenance, brushing with a stiff-bristled broom is always best as it can get your artificial grass looking its best in no time at all. It is most effective when brushed against the pile direction of the grass to try and stand it upright as best as possible.”
