Woman sends note asking neighbour to turn music down – but ends up regretting it

A woman has taken to Reddit to share how her nuisance neighbour has been scaring her dog with their loud music – and how things got even worse when she asked them to turn it down

Having to listen to your neighbour blasting out music for hours on end is infuriating – especially when they refuse to turn it down. A woman has taken matters into her own hands in an attempt to put an end to her neighbour’s selfish actions – but had her polite request thrown back in her face when they refused to listen.

Speaking to Reddit, the woman asked: “Apartment neighbour blasting music with full bass for hours, making myself and my pet uncomfortable. After knocking on their half open door eight to 10 times, they couldn’t hear me (that’s how loud it is). After I slid this note under their door, they turned it up. What should I do?”

Her beautifully handwritten note read: “Hi. I don’t mind music but please turn down the bass. The vibration scares my pet and I work. I tried to knock on your door several times but you couldn’t hear me, so I’m leaving this note. Thank you.”

While most users praised the woman for how she tried to handle the situation, others came up with suggestions on how she can try to resolve the problem moving forward.

One user said: “You were polite and nice by choosing to write a note and trying to reason with them, since that didn’t work call your local non emergency number and put in a noise complaint.

“If your apartment is anything like mine they may have a fee in the lease for noise complaints from the police, a £150 fine might discourage the behaviour in future if they do.”

Another user added: “Use your phone to identify what song is playing, and play that same song really loud but offset by about half a second.

“This will mess up their ability to enjoy the music more than anything else you might do.”

A third user said: “Document report, document report. Keep doing this and you’ll get there. The fact the noise was turned up after your very gentle note is an ominous sign.”

It comes after a woman ‘went next level petty’ to prove a point to her nuisance neighbour who keep her children up at night with their dog’s continuous barking.

Sharing a video on TikTok, user Saphire Jess wrote: “Petty level: When your neighbour’s dog barks from 5pm until 3am every damn day.

“Keeping yours and your neighbour’s babies and kids away ALL NIGHT and it starts to affect your son’s schooling.

“Talking to them and they said it’s old so they won’t try stop it… called the ranger and nothing was done for six months.

“So you take things into your own hands, sitting a speaker on the fence while house sitting for the four houses surrounding, playing this for six hours straight as they sleep for their night shift.”

While singing along to the music, the TikTok user is seen playing Baha Men’s ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ on repeat in her back garden as she tries to prove a point to her neighbours.

While most users “fully supported” her actions, others shared how their own neighbours get on their nerves with their “total disregard” for people within earshot of them.
