Anyone who loves using a false tan mousse or lotion will know the struggle when it comes to ensuring your bronzed glow looks natural – as there are major tell-tale signs that can give your faux look away. While it’s a great way to keep bronzy skin all year round, the tell-tale signs of a dodgy fake tan job usually appear on dry areas of skin, like your elbows or ankles. Another major culprit is your hands, as a fake tan can look patchy or orange if you don’t apply it correctly to your fingers and in-between your knuckles.

One beauty-obsessed duo have gone viral on TikTok thanks to their unusual fake tan tests, where they try out innovative hacks to remove fake tan from their hands in a bid to help others find a tip that works for them.

Their videos have remained controversial on the app, however, as they often involve using incredibly dark fake tan, which some people claim strays too far from their natural skin colour.

For those looking for an easy way to correct a fake tan mistake, one of the twin’s recent tricks might be useful, however, as they trialled using a surprising ingredient to scrub the product off their palms.

Victoria and Jacqui Hondrou, known as @hondroutwins on the app, filmed a clip of them trying to remove a seriously dark tan with toothpaste and a brush.

The bizarre tutorial starts with one of the twins applying an extreme amount of tanning mousse to her hand and palm, before rubbing their hands together to ensure every area is covered.

They paid close attention to the knuckles when rubbing the mousse into the skin, as this can often be a tell-tale area for fake tanners.

The woman then squeezes a generous amount of toothpaste onto a fluffy make-up brush and gets to work on her palms, rubbing the minty mix onto her hands.

The woman explains that the trick takes a lot of scrubbing, as the clip shows her aggressively brushing her hand with the toothpaste before wiping off the tan and the remaining paste with a cloth.

Eventually, the woman’s palms come up near-enough natural, as all the dark fake tan was removed by the toothpaste.

People have divided opinions over the twins’ hack, as they questioned why they used so much false tan in the first place.

One TikTok user wrote “bro- I have a strange feeling that’s a little dark for you” but another defended the twins’ video, claiming that there’s method to the madness: “guys they don’t STAY this tanned you wipe it off”.

Others spotted that the tan ‘looks green’ on the woman’s hand, while another wrote: “just unneeded effort”.

Tan-savvy commenters suggested another way to ensure their product applies smoothly, with one saying: “Why don’t you just use the brush to apply it to the top?”.
