A woman who says her divorce was amicable felt comfortable enough to attend the wedding of her ex-husband and his new wife Stephanie. She likes Stephanie, who is great with her three kids, and says they’ve never had any issues.
Her ex invited her along to the ceremony, and she was happy to accept, with that being her day to care for their children anyway. Unfortunately, things took an awkward turn on the big day itself when she arrived at the venue, with Stephanie simply ‘brushing her off’ and thanking her for dropping off the children.
When she explained she too would be staying for the reception, Stephanie quickly became distressed, much to the ex-wife’s confusion.

It soon became apparent that, although Stephanie knew full well her husband’s former wife had been invited, she didn’t think she’d actually accept. She also wasn’t best pleased about her turning up in a ‘pretty dress’ and accused her of trying to ‘upstage’ her.
Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username u/closureseekingex, the baffled ex-wife recalled: “I told her that I was invited and since I took the two-hour drive I would be staying for the entire duration. She didn’t like this response.
“Stephanie asked me to leave and I stood my ground. She went on to complain about my dress upstaging hers. My ex and former mother-in-law helped her to calm down and the wedding shortly began.”

Initially, she’d assumed this would be the end of the matter, but later on, during a private conversation, Stephanie accused her of ‘trying to ruin her special day’.
She continued: “She is convinced that I wanted to show off and make the wedding about my divorce. She said it was rude for me not to leave after the bride requested it because it was her special day. I told her that I am not responsible for her insecurities and once again reminded her that I have no interest in ‘stealing’ my ex back.”
Giving some idea of what the dress in question looked like, she went on to share a picture of a full-length red dress made from a lacey material, which very much resembled a mermaid-style bridal gown. A number of fellow Reddit users understood why Stephanie hadn’t been comfortable about the outfit choice and felt she should have just left when asked.
One person wrote: “The dress is literally a wedding dress in the colour red, I would be angry at anyone who showed up in a wedding dress no matter the colour, let alone your fiancés ex.
“Regardless of if she wants him back or not she was going to stand out at the wedding and would attract attention, now her ex is left arguing with his new bride who’s had one of the most important days of her life ruined.”
Another commented: “You wore a flaming red wedding dress. I bet a million bucks no one else there was dressed in something so attention-getting. The only other thing that would make you more of an a****** is if this was a daytime wedding.”
