As fun as the festive season can be, it can leave you lumbered with plenty of extra housework, particularly if you’ve had guests over to join in the celebrations. Those of us who’ve raised a glass of prosecco this New Year’s Eve may well still be putting off giving the wine glasses a good scrub before getting back to normality, with these being particularly tricky to clean up well.
A woman who was left with tonnes of glasses to wash after Christmas Day has now shared her top tip for keeping cloudiness at bay and says this always gets her glasses sparkling once again.
Taking to TikTok, where she goes by the username @purdyandfigg, the cleaning whizz demonstrated her favoured go-to ‘sparkling glass cleaning hack’, which she picked up after finding that her glasses kept on getting smudgy.
In the ‘boxing day clean’ video, the savvy TikTok user showed followers her cloudy glasses, remarking that there were just ‘so many glasses to clean after Christmas Day’.

Revealing her tried-and-trusted hack, she advised followers to pop their mucky wine glasses in the dishwasher, adding a cup of white vinegar into the cycle alongside a scrunched-up ball of tinfoil.
Although this may well look unusual to some, the home hacks influencer urged her intrigued followers to ‘trust the process’. The clip then cut to the end of the dishwasher cycle, with the glasses inside now shown to be sparking like diamonds, and completely smudge-free.
One amazed person commented: “Wow!”, while a second approved: “Great idea.” Other followers made suggestions of their own, with a third person recommending ‘half a cut lemon’ and a fourth advising a bit of citric acid.
Discussing the tinfoil trick with Homes & Gardens, Brittany Kline from The Savvy Kitchen explained: “The aluminum will help to remove any build-up on your flatware and leave it looking like new. Plus, it’s a great way to eliminate any water spots that may have formed.”
