Since 2011, the goal of World Backup Day(Opens in a new window) has been to reach those who have never backed up their data, and educate those who might not even be aware of the data backup process.
It was designed by Ismail Jadun, a digital strategy and research consultant, to boost awareness for businesses and individuals that may not recognize the importance of regular data backups. But what is a backup exactly? It’s a copy of all your important files—from irreplaceable family photos and home videos to documents with sensitive information. Instead of storing it all in one place like on your computer’s hard drive, you keep a copy of everything somewhere safe (like, say, an external hard drive) in case your files become corrupted or are lost.

Data loss can occur when you physically damage or lose a device, but it can also happen due to fraudulent means including hacks. Individuals as well as businesses and organizations are at risk, so be sure to back up your important files and documents. Once you’ve made a backup, you can simply reload those files from the storage device to your main device. It’s a relatively simple way to safeguard the data that’s important to you and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
Ahead of World Backup Day on March 31, retailers have deals on SSDs, HDDs, and USB flash drives; check them out above.
